As you may have noticed, a new poll has been posted at the top of this page. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the situation, I will fill you in on the details.
Prior to the season, Coach Dixon asked us that we find a more creative cheer to replace yelling sucks after each of the opposing players is introduced. Because our duty is to serve Coach Dixon and the team, this was not a request that could be ignored. Rather than try to come up with something on our own and implement it earlier in the season, we decided to take our time and try to involve as many people as possible in the decision-making process. Thus, we used e-mail, flyers, and Facebook to inform students of the upcoming change and to search for the best ideas. After a couple weeks of discussion, a poll was created on this site including the best suggestions.
The poll will be available from now until December 30. The choice that receives the most votes will become the Oakland Zoo's new pregame intro cheer. The new cheer will be implemented for the first time at the Lafayette game on January 2 and will be used in all future games. Feel free to use the comments section of this post and/or the Facebook group to discuss the options and campaign for your favorite cheer. Let your friends know about this poll and encourage them to vote as well so that as many voices as possible can be heard.
This is your opportunity to impact the future of the Oakland Zoo, so take it seriously. And finally, may the best cheer win!

If you choose to vote for Other, please explain what your choice would be instead of the ones listed and why.
hey im sorry but i go to half the games im in high school but those are all bad choices.
since they are all bad choices...what do u suggest?
this is our house is a pointless and dumb chant! i can't think of something better right now but don't do that one. personally i like the "sucks" chant and i know many of my friends (who do and don't like pitt) think it is good as well.
How about "WHO CARES?" after each one or something. Maybe not a great suggestion...go to pantherlair.com - there are some good ones there.
my favorite from the pantherlair suggested above...
"done in the right succession depending on the players...
..."short and ugly"
..."tall and ugly"
..."just plain ugly"
after the coach...
"Cheap suit!" or "Clip-on tie!"
or if not wearing a suit,
"dressed by his mom" or "can't afford a suit"
obviously there are more but this is a start
The hicks of WVU say "who cares" etc in their introductions, and we will never copy a cheer from them.
The opportunity to suggest ideas was open for several weeks. To those who say that none of the options are any good, you should have said something earlier. Unless there is a really good idea offered, the choices are given in the poll.
If the Hoopies say that, then they copied it from UCLA who say "Who cares", "big deal", and "so what", etc after each opposing player is introduced.
The suggestion of mentioning and cheering the Pitt starter at the corresponding position seems like a very cool idea.
I didn't really like any of the options. The Victory Song, while a good idea, is too much to ask from students who can't often clap to the same beat. Having them sing the victory song would be asking too much and would probably sound bad. Same applies for the alma mater.
This is our house is nice, but wouldn't you rather want something applicable to Pitt?
Something different like "Hail to Pitt" might be a good idea. It's something classy (which I'm assuming is what Dixon wants and started this whole thing), unique (no other team will be chanting that), and its short enough to fit in between players names. Not sure what to say for the coach, but maybe a "not in our house" after the coaches name wouldn't be bad. You just gotta keep it simple and short. Just my 2 cents.
Everybody had a month to throw in their two cents, and now it's too late because the poll is up. We just have to stick with what the results are, and since most people are actually choosing one of the available options, most people will follow along. Obviously there are going to be widely varying opinions, but we need to pick something
but "this is our house" is probably the stupidest chant in the history of chanting. except for that we are thingy they do at State College.
learn the goddamn words to the victory song.
Agreed. It's really sad knowing that such a majority of our students don't know the words to any of our school songs, let alone one.
If they truly wanted their Pitt pride to show, they should have no reason not to learn them...
I would love to see you try to implement some of those choices with the current students... We all know that SUCKS will be said the rest of the year.
hey guys....i admire you guys for trying...but just as you cant get everyone to wear a zoo shirt or make the other 11 thousand people stand up and cheer (which would make the pete much louder) getting everyone to end the sucks chant will be hard to do. Most of the profane stuff we didn't start...and most student sections do the same thing...i have been to 20 road arenas...lots of repetitiveness...anyway...that one message board sadly I still read...had some good ideas on it...maybe worth a check...I'll be in the garden tomorrow..duke is young and hasn't been to the garden with this crew...our sophs and older have all been there for a whole weekend a few times...Let's go pitt
I like the "HAIL TO PITT!!!" idea.
The choices given in the poll on here are not very good, in my opinion. I took it on myself to ask the posters on Pantherlair for some ideas, and I think some decent ones were given. To dismiss those ideas because they came late is foolish. To say that a bad choice is what the choice will be just because better ones weren't suggested earlier is, in my view, rather shortsighted.
Guys, give it up. We are sticking with SUCKS!
if ian says it, it must be true
Just like the scout and rivals message boards, looks like the idiots have infiltrated the Zoo webpage. Typical panther fans.
I for one would be EXTREMELY disappointed if we choose to say "this is our house"... The whole idea is to attempt to start something new and unique that we can call our own. "this is our house" is used by numerous other schools and is very popular in High school. By no means would this idea be "our own tradition". I did not contribute any ideas, so maybe I am not one to speak, but this in my eyes would be a horrible choice.
Thats the hard part about all of this. Everyone wants us to change it, but we don't have the answer YET.
Once we get something we can all get behind then it will catch on, but until now we just need to keep racking our brains to come up with something.
alright quit impersonating dpj...if u were the real dpj, your name would appear in blue...
Nice to see we have some imposters on the board. Yay for COPY CATS!
that is really sad. one bald dave is enough, we don't need two.
I think as the other teams names are being introduced everyone should turn their back rather than the newspaper thing....but that's just me
they do that at Georgetown, and it isn't that impressive when you see it. the papers are cooler
